Father John Taosan of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin, Texas raises his fist as he and alumni of Jack Yates High School in the Third Ward of Houston, Texas, U.S. pay their respects to George Floyd, an alumni of Yates, on Monday, June 8, 2020. George Floyd, a longtime Houston resident in the Third Ward, died while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. The video of Floyd’s death shows Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes while Floyd repeatedly states, “I can’t breathe,” to the officers.
